Construction:

The Genesis is a well constructed kite lower spreaders are Sky Shark 5PT. The leading edges are Sky Shark P200 they cover the ends with a vinyl cap as well. Yo-yo stoppers(tie-wrap style) from Excel come already installed as well as dacron cutout LE connector covers. The spine uses a pultruded 6mm and a P200 combination the P200 part of it is located in the center T area. The center T is one of the new aluminum type that Level One has been using with some of their kites. Hooray they decided not to use the TWS system on the Genesis! There is weight though but it is a total of 12 grams fixed at the nose. The Genesis has a deep sail the standoffs are much longer than say the JTM they almost remind me in length to the New Age. Also another thing strikes me about the Genesis is that it seems to have a fairly long tail compared to many of their other kites. The bridle is a simple 3-point with quick adjustment knots at the upper spreader connectors and also at the center T if you want to shorten up your turning inputs. One of the nice things about the bridle is that it is not too long it does not get caught on the tail at all. There is a leech line in the TE to subdue any noise. The spreader connectors are Avia's. The Leading Edges have some curve to them. The standoff to sail connection area has some mylar re-enforcement to it.

Flight:

Winter has been very strange this year not much rain to speak of and hardly any wind to speak of at all most days have been very calm. So needles to say I have only been able to fly in very light puffs of wind lately and most of it provided by quite a bit of back peddling. The Genesis is nice, smooth, and silent in flight with no real nits to pick with it at all in the stock configuration. The first time I flew the Genesis I really liked the way it flew a nice laid back feeling to characterize it. The tricks were there the precision was there and I had not much inclination to go and change a bunch of things right off, sometimes that is a nice change. I had a preconception that I would be wanting to add a cross-active bridle and fixed weights to the tail(although I couldn't avoid doing the latter one). In stock configuration the Genesis has very good precision and I probably would not hesitate using it as comp. kite. It will hold a nice beautiful steady fade for you no nose dipping out on you. It backspins quite easily. It will do Jacobs Ladders no problemo the roll out is a little on the slow side an elegance to it if you will. The Genesis will sit in a deep turtle lazy susans are easily accomplished it will multi-lazy very well too. Flic-flacs are good for a kite of this size certainly not as quick as the JTM.

The flat spin(540's, Axels) capabilities of the Genesis are what I would say are definitely above average for a kite of this style. Now in the stock configuration I could not hit yo-yo's coming out of the fade roll out. I could occasionally hit them with the nose dropped forward like for a flapjack. The Genesis will do wapdoowaps fairly easily and roll up with that approach as well.

Ahhh I finally get some decent wind and weather on my one of days off to really spend some time on the Genesis. I came away impressed at how well mannered and rounded this kite is. The forward speed is slow to moderate. The pull is light to medium in comparison to say an STX 2.3, Nirvana, or Transfer. The Genesis can be easily backspun.
Again the axels are really nice as I noticed before. The kite is very stable when in the backflip locks in nicely for those multilazies. Superstarts are easily accomplished on the Genesis. If you add 15 to 20 grams to the tail of the Genesis the yo-yo’s come out of the closet. You can hit them out of the fade rollout or with the nose forward hit the lines and big release for a wrap as well. The Genesis will fly rolled up alright although I think the yo-yo stopper placement may not quite be the ideal position.

Conclusion:

Another outstanding kite from Level One. I think it would have a wide range of appeal from recreational flyer to the seasoned pro since it seems so well mannered. The Genesis seems to have a peaceful grace to it when executing all the tricks it is capable of. I will most certainly be adding one of these or the whole set to my bag in the near future I thoroughly enjoyed the Genesis. It receives a two thumbs way up from this Level One geek.

Good detailed review Lance! Thanks!

We will be getting more of the Level One Genesis, after we get back from the trade show. Right now, he's holding on to them for displaying at Primm. smile.gif

Thanks again!

No you do not necessarily have to remove the weight on the nose some people have. If you do remove the weight from the nose your turtle performance suffers. I prefer to leave it on personally. smile.gif

Scott,

Great review, I put about 4-5 hours on the kite today, And all I can say, Is this kite rocks. It will fly in very low winds, It has the precision built in, And just hands you the tricks.

I have been looking for a good all around kite, And I think i have found it. Myself and a couple other fliers flew it for the first time last night, And all of us clicked with it right away.

Great kite, If you haven't tried one, Do.

Why is this kite taking so long to catch on? (Maybe I should ask why so many are biased against LevelOne kites?) It is well made, flies really well and is a good value when compared to the French stuff. The tricks are there too, it is just up to you to get them out. The UL is also a great kite and the SUL may be the best of the three. So where is the hype that the other kites like this enjoy?

Hi D

There is probably not a bias, but they have had some lackluster performers in the past and the circle of fliers that gets things rollin is hesitant to lay down for it...yet...

There is a plan starting to brew to prove this kite a performer...

Keep watchin D.

Because it's not a snooty French Kite perhaps? Price isn't high enough?

It even took a few months for the Nirvana to get up to speed really with the slow production at the outset. Also relying on word of mouth to get around.

So where is that Vented???? Like I can do anything with it one handed anyway but would like to make the set complete when my wing has mended. smile.gif [/b]

The kites are more of a celebrity than I am. The cool thing is that it is a special summer suppliment for the southern part of the Grand Strand here in South Carolina and will be available for free all summer. It will be found in most of the hotel rooms around here and also in free racks all over the area. I was just happy to get the exposure for my favorite hobby. BTW, I will send you guys a copy for the shop.
