Frenchman's Bar is where we hold our Fun Fly's. Lot's of open flying space with good, unobstructed wind off the Columbia River.
Winds tend to be light in the early part of the day, picking up to moderate in the afternoon, and possibly heavier by late afternoon. Expect quite a variety of wind conditions. http://www.co.clark.wa.us/parks-trails/frenchmans.html (edited to updated link) |

Come on down the beach a ways and try flying the North Jetty in Florence, Oregon. We almost always have great winds. I fly my Codys so something to tie your kites off to is must, loads of drift wood around! Want to fly sport kites? move on down towards the beach and there is nothing to stumble over as you dance with your kite Let me know if you are coming to town and I would be happy to join you, mind you I fly my Codys and stay in closer to the drift wood

I usually only get as far south as Depoe Bay, and fly at Gleneden Beach, or back up at LC. How much father south is Florence?

From Depoe Bay come on down the coast another hour or so and you are in Florence. Do your flying in front of the Driftwood Shores motel or at the North Jetty, stay away from the South Jetty because they want money to play on that beach. If you are ever in town let me know, I am always looking for a kite flying buddy

The "kite field" at Myrtle Beach State Park in SC. Of course, one can also fly on the beach although there are few "bystanders" on the field.

![]() Hey John, Do you ever fly at Pawley's Island? Up until I put my kites away back in late '98 I used to fly there regularly. Love it. I especially liked it because women can wear thong bathing suits. In myrtle beach they're illegal. You can be ticketed and possibly arrested...family values, ya know. You can buy a six foot bong or get your lip pierced but better not wear a thong.
You wouldn't wanna see ME in a thong, anyways. [/b] |

Theresa - Don't go teling everyone, I still have a lot of the beach to myself compared to many who live at the beach.
Ponti - Kiting is illegal in may parts of Myrtle Beach now too. I just couldn't imagine the carnage if you mixed thongs and kites! D. |

D. I checked the Myrtle Beach rules and regs and didn't find any references to kite flying. I think it's more a matter of the private lifeguard services contracted by the city who discourage kite flying rather than it being against any city ordinance. This is because people with no kiting experience visit the beach, buy a $20 stunt kite from Klig's, take it to an extremely crowded area with no regard to anyone else and someone ends up getting hit. Unfortunately, the standard is prejudicial to experienced flyers who tend to stay away from sunbathers. |

It may not be in the rules and regulations but there are signs around in MB that say kite flying is prohibited. Most of the places you couldn't fly at kite there anyway now due to the crowds but it is illegal all year long where posted. BTW, don't get me started on my Klig's rant, the KTAI retailer of the year 2004 that is really a crappy joke shop. Do you really want to buy your next kite from someone with Billy-Bob teeth, novelty pants that look like their butt is hanging out playing with a whoppee cushion wearing a dunce hat that doesn't know a stunt kite from a delta?

I had no idea. Dang. That's what I get for being away since '98.

D. LMAO You forgot the fake arrow through the head and the fake washable tribal "tattoo" around the neck.
